About Ross

About Ross

Blue Psychology is the private telehealth practice of Ross Sutherland, a registered psychologist with more than 15 years’ experience providing welfare and psychological support across university, tertiary and community settings.

Ross works with adults and young adults in a collaborative, inclusive and neurodiversity-affirming way. Sessions are practical and reflective: a place to slow things down, understand what is happening, and build ways of responding that feel more workable in everyday life.

Ross draws on approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Schema Therapy and Internal Family Systems-informed work. His style balances clear strategies with room for complexity, self-compassion and meaning.

Video appointments

How video telehealth works

Blue Psychology is based in Canberra and offers video telehealth appointments to clients around Australia. There are no in-person appointments, which means support can fit more easily around work, study, caring responsibilities and location.

After booking through Halaxy, you’ll receive appointment details and a secure video link. No special software is needed; appointments can be joined through a web browser on a phone, laptop or computer.

Before the appointment, you can upload referral documents such as a Mental Health Care Plan if you have one.

Please note: Blue Psychology offers video telehealth only. We do not offer in-person appointments.

What to expect

A steady space to think, plan and practise change.

Many people come to therapy when they are carrying too much, feeling stuck, or finding that old patterns keep repeating. Sessions are designed to help you make sense of what is happening without judgement.

Together, you can work on practical strategies, emotional understanding and the small next steps that make life feel more manageable.

Fees and referrals

Fees, Medicare and private bookings

Blue Psychology offers straightforward video telehealth appointments for adults seeking psychological support. You can book privately without a referral, or you may be able to use a Mental Health Care Plan and eligible referral to claim Medicare rebates.

Sessions are held online, allowing you to attend from home, work, or another quiet private space. The aim is to make psychological support easier to access while still providing thoughtful, professional care.

Medicare rebates are not automatic or guaranteed. Eligibility depends on your referral, Medicare rules, and your individual circumstances. The fee estimate tool can help you understand the likely out-of-pocket cost before booking.

A limited number of Medicare bulk-billed appointments may be available by prior approval only and under special circumstances. Please only select a bulk-billed appointment type if this has been confirmed with Blue Psychology in advance.

Medicare explained

Using a Mental Health Care Plan

A Mental Health Care Plan is prepared by a GP or eligible medical practitioner when they assess that psychological support may be appropriate. If you are eligible, it can allow you to claim Medicare rebates for psychology sessions under the Better Access initiative.

You do not need a Mental Health Care Plan to book privately. If you do want to claim Medicare rebates, you will need an eligible referral before claiming. Referral documents can be uploaded during the Halaxy booking process.

Speak with your GP about whether a Mental Health Care Plan is appropriate for your situation. Blue Psychology cannot guarantee Medicare eligibility or rebate amounts.
